WATCH: Reds’ Joey Votto: ‘We owe the baseball fans in Cincinnati a much, much better show’

The Cincinnati Reds had their first full-squad workout of Spring Training on Monday.

Here are five things to know.

1. Reds first baseman Joey Votto says he wants to win, “not one, but two rings before I leave.” I guess that means the 11-year veteran needs to get busy. Votto had a lot to say in a wide-ranging interview after practice.

“As a Reds fan and player, I’m so tired of losing,” Votto said. “I know everybody at home is. I don’t want to be comfortable with it. I don’t want it to be OK. I don’t want the conversation to always be in the rebuilding vain. It needs to get going now.”

“As far as us winning a championship this year, I’m not sure. I would never say yay or nay… but we’ve got to make a major turn this year and we have to head in a positive direction. We can’t lose the people in Cincinnati. I would like to think it’s a baseball city and we owe the baseball fans of Cincinnati a much, much better show.”

2. Jared Hughes is my new “favorite” interview. The former Pirates and Brewers relief pitcher said he knows his new team will win the Central Division, and he thinks the Reds can be serious National League contenders.

The 6-foot-7 right-hander was the Reds big free-agent aquisition in the offseason. Among other things, Hughes loves to sprint out of the bullpen to the mound.

3. Bryan Price called the first full-squad workout a “feel good” day for his team. Hitters took batting practice off of “dead arms” Monday. Translation: Coaches throwing easy stuff. Today and Wednesday the hitters will get a look at the real stuff in live BP to get ready for Friday’s Cactus League opener against the Indians.

4. Center fielder Billy Hamilton said the offseason was a bit distracting with trade talk swirling around his name. The former Dayton Dragon said he wants to show the club that drafted him that they made a good decision keeping him — at least for now.

5. Temperatures won’t reach 60 degrees here in Goodyear today and the weather will stay cooler than normal through the rest of the first week of camp.
