Wayne grad Freeman to join Fickell at UC

Former Ohio State linebacker spent last 4 seasons at Purdue

Wayne High School graduate Marcus Freeman will join the staff of new Cincinnati Bearcats football coach Luke Fickell, Freeman announced Tuesday on Twitter.

Freeman lettered for the Ohio State Buckeyes as a linebacker from 2004-08. Fickell was his position coach throughout his career. Freeman ranked second on the team with 84 tackles as a fifth-year senior in 2008 and led the team with 9½ tackles for a loss. He earned second-team All-Big Ten honors.

Freeman was a fifth-round pick of the Chicago Bears in 2009. His coaching career began in 2010 when he was a graduate assistant at Ohio State. He coached linebackers for two years at Kent State and then for the last four years at Purdue.

Freeman attended Fickell’s introductory news conference on Saturday. Fickell said during the press conference Freeman would join his staff.
