Wayne hires new boys’ basketball coach

The Wayne High School boys’ basketball team has a new coach — again.

The hiring of Nathan Martindale was approved earlier this month to replace Kevin Kuwik, the former Dayton Flyers assistant who resigned Aug. 1 after five weeks to take another college job at Davidson.

Martindale is a 2002 Cedarville High School graduate who teaches in Springfield.

He coached the Wayne J.V. team the past six years and is in his eighth year with the Warriors.

Kuwik was hired to replace Travis Trice Sr., who won 197 games and a state championship in 10 seasons as head coach of the Warriors.

Trice became the coach of the Wayne girls' team in May.

The Wayne boys were 15-9 last season, including a 7-5 mark in the GWOC National East.

Ohio high school teams are allowed to begin official practices Nov. 3.
