When Reds’ Winker homers, the world goes silent

The Reds have a winning streak for the first time in more than three weeks, and as they went about bombing the Pirates, 9-1, Tuesday night in Pittsburgh, it was clear that they’re still capable of having fun.

Rookie outfielder Jesse Winker hit his first home run, and his teammates acted like nobody cared or even noticed.

Billy Hamilton and Eugenio Suarez homered, too, as Cincinnati moved to 7-1 this season against Pittsburgh.

Homer Bailey was solid on the mound as well, allowing four hits and a run in six innings.

The Reds last won back-to-back games July 8-9, and entered Tuesday’s contest in PNC Park 3-14 since the All-Star break.

All that seemed forgotten by evening’s end. OK, maybe not, but geez, how long had it been since back-to-back days of joy?
