Will Mike Brown look for Bengals ties in coaching search?

The Bengals reportedly have a coaching opening for the first time in 15 years.

Marvin Lewis and the organization reportedly mutually agreed to part ways. Granted, Lewis could find himself in a front office role in Cincinnati or elsewhere. He’s always been hands-on with personnel.

The 82-year-old Mike Brown will be making the coaching call. Some believe he’ll go the familiar route.

In a CBS piece outlining potential candidates, the aforementioned Simmons and defensive coordinator Paul Guenther are mentioned. As are a pair of former offensive coordinators, Hue Jackson and Jay Gruden.

Jackson is 1-28 across two seasons in Cleveland, though he said he’s focused on fixing the Browns. The Redskins have been reeling, but there’s no indication Gruden is on the hot seat just yet.

If Brown doesn’t opt for Bengals ties, Josh McDaniels and Jim Schwartz are two experienced, popular candidates. If Brown’s conducting a true search, he’ll speak to every person he can.
