Xenia’s Meechi Harris signs with Cincinnati

Meechi Harris has decided to go from a “Wildcat” to a “Bearcat” in his choice for a college football team. Xenia’s all-star receiver signed a national letter-of-intent on Wednesday to play for the University of Cincinnati.

Harris had verbally committed to Kentucky back in October, but this week rescinded that non-binding decision to play for Luke Fickell at U.C.

“I like the players around the program and the new recruits coming in with me,” Harris said. “I’m planning on coming in and being the best player I can be and helping Cincinnati as much as I can.”

Harris received more than 20 offers from colleges around the country, including several Big Ten teams. The 6-foot-2, 188-pound receiver also played defense for the Buccaneers . He averaged 20 yards a catch and scored four touchdowns for a team that struggled to a 2-8 season.

Harris was listed as a 3-star recruit by scouting services. He said he was glad to finally end the recruiting process so he can concentrate on the Buccaneers basketball season.

“At the start of it I didn’t know what to do, where to go or how to handle it and now it’s all over,” Harris said. “About a thousand letters later, it’s been pretty wild.”
