Strong winds tip over tree on power lines in Beavercreek, sparking a fire

Update@2:42 p.m.:

DP&L crews have been called to the scene, and they will briefly shut down the road to remove the tree from the power lines, officials said, noting that customers in the area have not lost power.

First take:

A tall tree fell on power lines in the 2000 block of Beaver Valley Road in Beavercreek Friday afternoon, causing sparks, officials said.

Strong winds caused the tree to fall on the power lines, officials said. The winds may be a precursor to a series of severe showers and storms that are expected hit the Miami Valley region tonight.

We have a photographer on the way to the scene, and we’ll bring you the latest information as it becomes available.
