Leonid Meteor Shower peaks heading into weekend

The Leonid Meteor Shower will peak this weekend.

>> What you should know before viewing a meteor shower

The Leonid meteor shower is named on its radiant point, the constellation Leo the Lion, which will become more active before dawn Nov. 17 and 18.

The shower will peak heading into the start of the weekend. After midnight Thursday, Leo will rise in the night sky, bringing  an expected 10-15 meteors per hour.

The best time to see meteors is a few hours before dawn Friday. Unfortunately, our next storm system will likely get in the way of viewing meteors Saturday.

The moon sets the next couple of days early in the evening so that means the sky will stay dark overnight making the meteors easier to spot. Find an open spot without city lights to view this shower.
