WASHINGTON TWP. — A pizza restaurant that opened its second Dayton-area site fewer than two years ago is expanding with an outdoor patio.

Old Scratch Pizza is growing by about 50 seats at the 440 Miamisburg-Centerville Road site, adding about 700 square feet to the front of the business that’s just west of the Centerville city limits.

The addition, which is expected to cost more than $40,000, is now under construction and is targeted for completion by mid-August, Old Scratch co-founder Eric Soller said.

“We know that people love dining outdoors,” he said. “And the time that we’ve experienced during COVID really showed us that they want to dine outdoors more and more.”

Soller opened the 8,300-square-foot restaurant in Washington Twp. in October 2019 with a dining room seating about 230 in a casual atmosphere.

It debuted a few years after the original Old Scratch, which is just south of downtown Dayton on South Patterson Boulevard near Miami Valley Hospital.

“When we first opened the Centerville location, we didn’t have the opportunity for a patio at that time,” he said. “As time evolved we figured out how to do one in a way that made sense for us and the community.”

The suburban location opened with about 60 employees. Soller said he doesn’t expect to add jobs with the expansion.

The restaurant opened with three wood-burning ovens to accommodate cooking Old Scratch’s signature Neopolitan-style pizzas.

Old Scratch also serves salads and specialty items. It features 20 taps devoted to craft beer, and four taps reserved for wine, and also offers cocktails.

The restaurant’s hours are Tuesday – Thursday, 11 a.m. – 9 p.m.; Friday – Saturday, 11 a.m. – 10 p.m.; and Sunday, 11 a.m. – 9 p.m., according to its website.
