Kyle Davis made his go-ahead layup with 16 seconds to play. The Flyers led 68-67. VCU lost the ball out of bounds with 9.2 seconds left on its next possession. The officials awarded the ball to VCU but then to UD on review. Davis then threw an in-bounds pass under the basket to Charles Cooke in the corner, but Doug Brooks stole the ball (this was the only turnover of the night by Davis and only one of two in the last 25 minutes for the Flyers, who had 10 in the first half). Momentum was carrying Brooks out of bounds, so he tried to throw the ball to Justin Tillman under the basket (see my photo below).

Tillman would have had an easy layup and given VCU the lead, but Davis saw his mistake and intercepted the pass by Brooks.
“It was a bad pass,” Davis said. “We had a time-out. I should have called it. My instincts told me to make a hard play on the ball. He passed it back in, and I got a steal."
Here's my sequence of photos after the steal by Davis. Pure chaos. Brooks falls into the cheerleaders after his steal and turnover.

I don't know if anyone had time to process what had just happened. Except this guy (below).

This Charles Cooke smile as he looked at Davis told what his teammates were thinking: "You're a lucky guy."
