Another DeWine to run statewide

First District Court of Appeals Judge Pat DeWine, son of Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine and Fran DeWine, announced he is running for one of two open seats on the Ohio Supreme Court in 2016.

The Ohio Republican Party endorsed DeWine and Pat Fischer, who is also a First District Court of Appeals judge in Cincinnati. The Ohio GOP is also backing Ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice Maureen O'Connor for re-election in 2016.

Ohio Republican Party Chairman Matt Borges said in a written statement: "It's important that we nominate qualified candidates to such a pivotal branch of our government. O'Connor, DeWine and Fischer are experienced and have proven records worthy of serving on the Ohio Supreme Court. Our party is excited to support these candidates to ensure they are victorious next November."

Justices Judith Lanzinger and Paul Pfeifer, both Republicans, cannot seek re-election due to age limits.
