Jack Torry in our Washington Bureau has just reported that Columbus is one of three finalists for the 2016 Democratic National Convention. Here's his report...
Columbus has emerged as one of three finalists for the 2016 Democratic National Convention, which gives Ohio a chance to host both major conventions that year.
In addition to Columbus, New York and Philadelphia are the three cities now competing for the Democratic gathering for 2016. Not since 1972 when the Republicans and Democrats held their conventions in Miami Beach has one state held both national conventions.
“We look forward to working with Columbus, New York, and Philadelphia as we go forward,” said U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., who chairs the Democratic National Committee, said today.
Democrats will hold their convention in 2016 during either July or August.
Republicans will host their convention in Cleveland.
