How did Kim Davis go to State of the Union with ticket from Jim Jordan?

Rep. Jim Jordan may have given Kentucky clerk of courts Kim Davis his spare ticket to the State of the Union Tuesday, but that doesn’t mean the two got to hang out, Jordan said Wednesday.

“I didn’t see her,” said Jordan, R-Urbana, of Davis, the Rowan County clerk of courts. who attracted national headlines for refusing to issue marriage licenses for gay couples in the aftermath of a Supreme Court decision permitting gay marriage.

He gave his remarks at a newsmaker breakfast sponsored by the Heritage Foundation.

Jordan gave his ticket to the conservative Family Research Council, which then gave its ticket to Davis. Asked about her reaction to President Barack Obama’s final State of the Union Tuesday night, she said simply, “It was a speech.” She told AFP reporter Ivan Couronne that she attended to encourage Christians who want to “make a difference.”

Jordan reportedly did not know that the ticket was to go to Davis until just before the speech.

"Kim Davis used our ticket," a Jordan spokesman said Tuesday. "Our staff heard from the Family Research Council that Ms. Davis and her family hoped to attend the State of the Union address and so we offered a ticket."
