Strickland to get in U.S. Senate race

Jack Torry in our Washington Bureau is reporting that former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland will run for U.S. Senate next year, former Ohio Democratic Party Chairman David Leland said today.

Leland, a state representative from Columbus, said Strickland is “absolutely running. I just wrote him a check for $5,400, so he better be running.”

A source close to Strickland said Strickland, who has been calling donors and who has assembled a group of key advisors, will make an announcement at 9 a.m. tomorrow (Wednesday).

U.S. Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, is running for re-election to the seat. Cincinnati P.G. Sittenfeld, a Democrat, has also announced he’s running.

We'll updated this story throughout the day.
