That’s a little less than the more than $757,043 his Democratic primary opponent, Cincinnati City Councilman P.G. Sittenfeld raised, but Sittenfeld also had more time to raise money. He got into the race in late January. Strickland announced his entry into the race about a month later.
Both, however, face a significant fundraising disadvantage to Portman, who raised $2.75 million last quarter and has $8 million in the bank.
The full fundraising reports are due to the Federal Elections Commission April 15, but all three candidates have released their figures early. While Portman released last week, Sittenfeld and Strickland released them this week – the same week that a Quinnipiac University poll showed Strickland leading Portman by 9 points. Strickland has also rapidly rounded up the endorsements of both the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio.
“In a very short period of time we’ve seen an outpouring of support for Ted all across Ohio,” said Strickland campaign manager Rebecca Pearcey. “We fully expect the momentum we’ve seen in the past several weeks to continue."
