Tom Young gets nod for board of elections

Tom Young of Washington Twp. is expected to be named to the Montgomery County Board Elections after he was recommended for the job by the Montgomery County Republican Party executive committee.

Young's background is in business and finance and he's been active in the community, previously serving on the Wright State University Board of Trustees and was a founding board member of Dayton School & Business Technology. He also chaired Campfire Boys & Girls and was on the Dayton Peace Accords Board.

"Tom has quietly and effectively made positive change in our community," said Montgomery County Sheriff Phil Plummer, who chairs the county party. "His experience and success in the private sector and knowledge of the process of public policy will serve Montgomery County Board of Elections and the Ohio Secretary of State well."

Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted will make the appointment and typically goes with those who are recommended.

Young would replace attorney Greg Gantt, former county party chairman.

“The board’s very special to me and I want to see it do well, but I respect the parties decision and trust that Tom Young will do a good job," Gantt said.

"We would like to publicly thank Greg Gantt for his service to the community," Plummer said.
