A new multimillion-dollar apartment project in northern Huber Heights is expected to be completed no later than early next year.

The first residents moved into Northtowne Apartments last month, and construction of the $10 million complex is anticipated to be finished later this year or early 2016, according to Amanda Rote, district manager for Mid-Ohio Development Corporation.

Northtowne Apartments features 152 single-story units — 104 units to the north of Parktowne Blvd. and 48 units to the south — on 20.8 acres just east of Old Troy Pike in Miami County. A combination of four- and six-unit buildings are being constructed, for a total of 26 buildings on site.

The first four buildings are now occupied, Rote said.

“We’ve had a great response from everyone,” Rote said. “We’re happy to be in Huber Heights. We look forward to filling up and meeting all our new residents.”

Huber Heights assistant city manager Scott Falkowski said Northtowne Apartments is a good fit for that part of the city, with single-family homes, condominiums, industrial, commercial and the future site of the new fire station surrounding it.

“They’re building a quality product that fills a need of the community,” Falkowski said. “It’s a good location with a good blend of the mixed-use.”

The city's new fire station will be located just south of Northtowne Apartments — addressing a need in northern Huber Heights with Northtowne opening as well as the growing Carriage Trails residential development.

Falkowski said a recommendation could be made to City Council at Monday’s meeting to award a construction contract for the fire station. The total budget for the project is $2.9 million, with the construction portion of it estimated to be $2.15 million.

The projected opening of the new fire station is late summer 2016, Falkowski said.

Northtowne Apartments offers one- and two-bedroom units, and each unit has a one- or two-car garage. Rent is between $725 and $1,050 a month. The square footage of living space ranges from 700 to 1,005.

Green space and a 3,420-square-foot clubhouse also are part of the complex. The clubhouse features a pool, offices for management and leasing, a fitness center, and a community room for residents to use.
