All A.C. Moore stores across the country will close as owner Nicole Crafts exits retail operations, according to a statement from the company.
A store opened in October 2018 at the Cross Pointe Center in Centerville is among those that will close. It remained open this morning, according to a store employee.
The renovation of the 20,000 square-foot space was around $200,000.
A.C. Moore first launched in 1985 in New Jersey and has expanded to more than 145 stores.
“Unfortunately, given the headwinds facing many retailers in today’s environment, it made it very difficult for us to operate and compete on a national level,” said Anthony Piperno, CEO of A.C. Moore. “During this process, we will continue to provide great customer experience, while still delivering quality and value on your favorite products.”
The company is no longer accepting online orders and plans for closing specific A.C. Moore locations will be shared in the upcoming weeks on A.C. Moore’s website, Piperno said.
The Michaels Companies, another popular craft store, will assume leases for up to 40 locations and purchase intellectual property to expand to one of the larges craft retailers in the country.
It’s unclear if Michaels will take over the Centerville location at this time.
“This transaction enables us to further expand our presence in strategic markets and serve even more customers both online and in store. We are looking forward to re-opening these stores under the Michaels name in 2020 and welcoming new team members,” said Michaels CEO Mark Cosby.
There are also two A.C. Moore stores in Columbus and two near Cincinnati.
