Chocolate shop plans renovation, relocation

Winans Chocolates and Coffees has purchased the former Piqua Daily Call Building at 310 Spring St. in Piqua and is renovating it with the intention of moving its chocolate factory, coffee-roasting operation, and offices there, as well as opening a retail store in the facility.

“This is a wonderful commitment to the city of Piqua and to all of Miami County,” co-owner Laurie Winans Reiser said in an email. “This facility will be able to accommodate bus tours, will include a chocolate factory viewing window and a mini-museum with information and memorabilia from the four generations of family ownership.”

Construction is expected to last seven to 10 months, Reiser said.

There are a dozen Winans Fine Chocolates and Coffees, including a store that opened last month at The Greene in Beavercreek in space that previously housed Peet’s Coffee & Tea.

Piqua-based Winans traces its roots to the late 1800s.
