Downtown Dayton home built in 1800s sold

The historic building at 35 E. First St. in downtown Dayton, one of the city’s early private residences, has sold for $437,500, Montgomery County property records show.

The buyer is identified as 35 Centurion LLC, which has the same Dublin, Ohio mailing address as Vaughan Group Ltd., a real estate services firm with operations in Dayton, Columbus and Florida.

The seller was Emco Inc., and records give the transaction date as Wednesday.

It’s difficult to find agreement on when the home was built. The three-story building was built in 1882 and offers nearly 9,000 square feet, according to a LoopNet listing.

A Facebook page for the address says the home is known as the “Dr. Jefferson A. Walters House” and is regarded as an a historic residence. The building’s Wikipedia page says the building was built in 1832. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.

And a Montgomery County Landmark Committee report puts the date of the building’s construction as 1865.
