The new Ikea property is approximately 15 miles north of downtown Columbus.
“The store also will attract new customers from throughout Central Ohio who value good design, good function and affordable prices, but have not had a chance yet to shop at IKEA,” said Lars Petersson, IKEA U.S. president.
Pepper Construction will build the project, according to a news release from IKEA. The plans for the building are consistent with the signiture architectural design IKEA is recognized for globally, the company said.
The future Columbus store will feature nearly 10,000 exclusively designed items, 50 inspirational room-settings and three model home interiors.
IKEA announced the creation of 500 jobs during the construction phase, and approximately 300 more workers will be employed when the new store opens.
The retailer also has a store located in West Chester Twp., just north of Cincinnati. The West Chester location was the first to open in Ohio in 2008.
