New brewery coming to Kettering

KETTERING — A new microbrewery that will brew and serve its beers and also will allow customers to brew their own beers on-site is in the works in Kettering.

Eudora Brewing Company will be located at 4716 Wilmington Pike, the former location of Synergy Music near The Market carryout and cigar shop, according to Neil Chabut of Kettering, the brewery’s owner.

Chabut — a 2007 graduate of Fairmont High School and 2011 graduate of the University of Dayton, where he earned a degree in psychology and social work — said he has signed a lease for the Wilmington Pike space and will soon seek approval for building and renovation plans.

“We’re hoping to open in the early spring of 2013, although that is likely to change,” Chabut said.

Chabut has been home-brewing for more than two years. He said he decided to open a brewpub that would also allow customers to brew their own beers after visiting a similar, and very busy, microbrewery in the Cleveland area.

One of his home brews, Boomerang IPA, was ranked second among 56 entries in the 2012 American Homebrewers Association contest first-round judging in Indianapolis earlier this year. His homebrews also have won medals in other brewing contests, including the “OctobersBest Zinzinnati” competition and the Dayton DRAFT “Brewster’s Cup” competition.

“I’m a science guy, but I have a creative side,” Chabut said. “Brewing blends science and creativity. It’s an art.”

Eudora will brew its own ales and lagers and serve them in its small taproom, which will be open to the general public and to brew-on-premise customers. Non-alcoholic beverages and a small selection of snacks also will be served. Eudora’s beers will include: Sundowner Blonde Ale, The Bee’s Knees Pale Ale, Boomerang IPA, and Thunderball Stout.

Another Kettering microbrewery, the Dayton Beer Company, opened at 912 East Dorothy Lane in May . It brews its own beers on premise but does not offer customers on-premise brewing.
