New moms, brides, college students: Buy what you need tax free in Ohio

You don’t have to have kids going back to school to benefit from this weekend’s Ohio’s sales tax holiday.

The holiday, which begins Friday and ends at midnight Sunday, offers sales tax exemptions on certain items for shoppers. The deal includes clothing priced up to $75 and school supplies and instruction materials priced under $20.

Here are three groups of people who can also benefit from the sales tax holiday:

1. NEW MOMS

Buying a ton of diapers for that newborn or toddler? Diapers, including disposable diapers, qualify as clothing under the Ohio Sales Tax Holiday. Clothing is any apparel suitable for general use.

2. BRIDES

Wedding apparel also qualifies for the Ohio Sales Tax Holiday. That includes formal wear, formal shoes, coats and hosiery.

3. COLLEGE STUDENTS

Sick of paying excessive amounts for textbooks and items for classes? Get it tax-free this weekend. “School instructional material” includes only the following items: reference books, reference maps and globes, textbooks, and workbooks.
