UD, Premier to ‘finalize’ fairgrounds purchase

Premier Health and the University of Dayton will finalize their planned $15 million purchase of the Montgomery County Fairgrounds Friday, both institutions said.

“Under the terms of the sale, Fairgrounds Redevelopment Ltd., the joint venture created by Premier and the University to purchase and redevelop the property, won’t take possession until October so Montgomery County Fair and the Dayton Horse Show can hold their final events at the historic location this summer,” the health care company and the university said in a joint statement.

“This is an important — but by no means final — step in the redevelopment of this landmark property,” UD President Eric F. Spina said in the statement. “Both institutions have track records of excellent stewardship and are committed to a vision for the property that serves the missions of the health system and the University, and is mindful of the needs of the community.”

Under the terms of the sale, the final Montgomery County Fair at the Dayton location off South Main Street will be held July 10 to 15.

The Dayton Horse Show’s final event at the location is set for August 2 to 5.

The Montgomery County Agricultural Society will move the fair to the 130-acre Judge Arthur O. Fisher Park in Jefferson Twp., with the first fair there planned for the summer of 2018.
