Sonic abruptly closes 3 area restaurants

Sonic Drive-In restaurants in Troy, Greenville and Sidney closed effective today, a franchise company official said this morning.

Rick Fee — operations director for Bowling Green, Kentucky-based Houchens Industries, the franchisee of Sonic Drive-In locations across the Dayton region — said the three stores were shut down “purely due to underperformance.” There are no plans to close any of the other 22 Sonic Drive-Ins in the region, Fee said.

Fee did not have an estimate on the number of employees affected by the move. Fee said employees will be offered transfers to other Sonic locations.
