A manufacturer of heavy-duty truck suspension and brake systems hinted at having more to say later this month about the recent purchase of land in Dayton.
Limited liability companies with apparent ties to Hendrickson International have purchased former Delphi buildings and land in West Dayton for a total of more than $1.7 million, according to local property records.
Hendrickson McCall LLC is identified in recent Montgomery County records as buying 3.7 acres on McCall Street, just west of U.S. 35, for $1,108,791. Also purchased by a similarly named entity, Hendrickson Maywood LLC: 4.7 acres nearly adjacent on Maywood Avenue, for $599,800.
Both parcels have historic ties to auto parts producer Delphi and are east of South Gettysburg Avenue near what for decades had been Delphi’s Home Avenue plant. That plant was demolished in 2014.
Hendrickson McCall LLC and Hendrickson Maywood LLC both filed incorporation papers with the state on the same day in September, with the help of a Columbus legal firm.
The Dayton Daily News reached out to Hendrickson International, asking a representative if the company was buying land in West Dayton.
“Hendrickson will have a formal press conference at the North American (Commercial) Vehicle Show on the 29th,” Mark Slingluff, Hendrickson director of global marketing and communications, said in an email Tuesday morning. “At that time, we will address a number of things along with your inquiry.” He did not elaborate.
The North American Commercial Vehicle Show, a showcase of technology and components for B2B truck fleets, will be held in Atlanta on Oct. 28-31 this year.
Hendrickson has been expanding in Ohio this year.
In April, the company said it was expanding its Trailer Commercial Vehicle Systems operations in Northeastern Ohio, planning to open its sixth trailer suspension plant.
“This $50 million, state-of-the-art facility will support local and Canadian customers as well as other Hendrickson divisions,” Hendrickson said in an announcement at the time. “It is our 11th manufacturing site in the United States and will have the capacity to manufacture axles and suspensions for Heavy-Duty Class 8 vehicles.”
Delphi Automotive Systems sold the McCall Street parcel in 2005 to McCall Properties LLC for $200,000. Delphi sold the the Maywood parcel to Maywood Real Estate LLC, also in 2005, for $565,000.
The Maywood building has a gross floor area of 102,381-square-feet, according to county records. The McCall Street structure has a gross floor area of 76,531 square feet, records show.
Ford Weber, city of Dayton development director, declined immediate comment Tuesday.
Nearby to the northeast off Abbey Avenue, historic Wright Co. factory buildings were added last month to the National Register of Historic Places.
Starting in 1909, the Wright Co. produced some 120 airplanes in 13 different models.
