GILBERT, Ronald Eugene Age 80, of Germantown, OH passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at his home. Ron was born September 21, 1937 in Germantown, the oldest of Harold Eugene and Rose Marie Gilbert. He was a 1955 graduate of Germantown High School. Ron and his loving wife of 58 years, Linda Rae Apple, married on August 1, 1959 at Emmanuel's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Germantown. He worked at Universal Tool and Die Company in Dayton, OH as a toolmaker, and farmed part-time raising 3 acres of tobacco with his wife. In 1970 he left his job as a toolmaker and chose to follow his true passion..farming. Together, Ron and Linda established Ro-Lin Farms and began operating as a grain elevator for local farmers. They created the farm name by using a portion of each of their names. Ro-Lin Farms began with a handful of employees and over the years has grown into a full service agricultural facility, currently with 24 employees. Ron was a man whose needs were full-filled by the simple things in life, he loved to farm and he loved his family. He loved being an active farmer in the community, and was in his glory farming the land that he loved. He truly enjoyed farming. It wasn't a job to him; it was his passion. His love for farming will continue through his wife, children and grandchildren. Along with his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Megan Jasper Deaton, sister-in-law Susan Gilbert, and nephew Sean Gilbert. Ron is survived by his wife Linda; four children Cheryl Barkalow of Germantown, Jane (Frank) Casson of Miamisburg, Beth (Jeff) Deaton of Germantown, Chad (Lucy) Gilbert of Germantown; 8 grandchildren Sarah Humboldt, Katie (Mark) Blevins, Brandon (Amy) Deaton, Danielle Deaton, Amy (Trent) Barga, Chase Barkalow, John & Eli Gilbert; 4 great-grandchildren Emma & Georgia Blevins, Addison and Matthew Humboldt; 5 siblings Larry "Butch" (Sharon) Gilbert of Rosebud, Arkansas; Sue (Rex)Mitchell of Moraine, Ohio; Colonel (ret.) Rusty (Jin) Gilbert of New Braunfels, Texas; David (Shelly) Gilbert of Germantown, Ohio; Cindy Cline of Moraine, Ohio; two nieces and three nephews. Ron will be sadly missed as a husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather and uncle, as well as from his beloved employees. The family will receive friends 4 - 8 p.m., Monday February 12, 2018, at the Dalton Funeral Home, 6900 Weaver Rd., Germantown, where the Funeral Service will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, with Pastor Terry Morgan officiating.
