SHIELDS, Helen L. 86, of Springfield, passed away in her home on Tuesday morning, March 13, 2018. She was born in Springfield on September 18, 1931, the daughter of the late Glen and Goldie (Cline) Shields. Helen retired from National Life Insurance Company following many years of service. She was a member of the United Church of South Vienna where she served as a deacon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Laura Nell and Dana Stites; infant brothers, Glen and Harold Shields; and brother and sister-in-law, Martin and Marjorie Shields. She is survived by a nephew, Thomas (Laura E.) Stites of South Vienna; great nephew, S.Sgt. Eric (Tori) Stites; great nieces, Lauren and Karley Stites; great-great nephew, Dana Stites; and friend and care-giver, Kathy Callihan. Helen's funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday in the United Church of South Vienna with Pastor Scott Griswold officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Sabina Cemetery.
