This custom-built, stone two-story has European influences within its design, including exposed wood beam ceilings, an ornate handcarved mantel, decorative tile, fabric wall coverings and a spiral staircase that was removed and restored from the former Van Cleve hotel.

Located in the Catalpa Woods neighborhood of Harrison Twp. and listed for $249,900 by Irongate Inc. Realtors, the stone home at 407 W. Nottingham Road has about 4,510 square feet of living space, plus a finished basement and oversized, two-car garage with workshop.

Formal entry opens through a solid wood door into a foyer with ceramic-tile flooring, wood-beam ceiling and the spiral staircase. At the end of the foyer is the formal living room with a gas fireplace that has a handcarved, wood mantel. Two sets of French doors open to the side veranda that wraps around three-sides of the home.

A library has two walls of built-in bookcases and a wood floor.

The formal dining room has two corner china hutches, crown molding, fabric-covered walls and a linen and china closet. The dining room is accessible from the foyer and the kitchen.

Contemporary cabinetry fills three walls of the kitchen, and an island has a five-burner gas cooktop and warming drawer. Cabinetry includes several appliance garages and a planning area. A bay bump-out has built-in window seats. There are two pantry closets, and a back staircase leads up to the second floor.

Off the kitchen is a mudroom area that provides access to the screen-enclosed porch, which has a terra cotta-tile floor, wood-beam ceiling and ceiling paddle fan.

A sun room or family room has several windows, including French doors that open to the veranda. On the opposite side of the room is a gas fireplace with Dutch ceramic-tile surround.

Upstairs are five bedrooms and five full bathrooms. The main bedroom is located at the end of the upstairs hallway. The bedroom has a dome ceiling with exposed cross beams. A dressing area has several closets, a double-sink vanity and access to dual bathrooms. One bathroom has a soaking tub while the other bathroom has a walk-in, ceramic-tile shower.

Two bedrooms share a Jack-and-Jill bath, and both bedrooms have large closets and storage nooks with built-ins. Two bedrooms at the other end of the hallway have walk-in closets. One bedroom has a door that opens to a balcony that leads to the sun deck on top of the screen-enclosed porch.

There is a third full bathroom and a laundry room with ceramic-tile surround on the second level.

The basement has been partially finished into a second laundry room with folding counter and cabinets. There is a bonus room with closet, a full bath with walk-in shower, a play room, a wine cellar and access to the garage and workshop.

The house has two heating and cooling systems, and an instant hot water tank was installed in 2017.
