More country fun from Nancy Wilson. K99online.com

Fall officially arrived this week, and here’s to hoping it’s less hectic than the summer was. Not complaining by any means, because it was filled with great country music (Luke Bryan in concert several times — don’t hate), Jason Aldean, trips to Nashville, my third nephew’s graduation from high school and the birth of my oldest nephew’s firstborn, Payton William.

Along with that, my dad was hit with pneumonia twice and spent a lot of his time recovering at a nursing home in Springfield. He’s home now and ornery as ever. Being a woman, I know we put ourselves last on the priority list, and this was no exception for my sister and me. She’s a registered nurse, and it seems that those in the medical field are the most guilty. I also took a vacation to Mexico at one of my favorite places with my favorite person. So, it’s not as bad as it seems. Just busy, like all of you.

Now with fall here, country concerts move from outdoors to indoors, “The Voice,” with Blake Shelton, returns on TV and our Cares for Kids Radiothon to benefit Dayton Children’s Hospital is back for Year 16 in November. You all have donated over $3 million dollars to keep Children’s the best and safest place for our kids, and I couldn’t be more proud.

You may or may not know that I have no children of my own, but between four nephews (now five!), a niece on the way and all the wonderful kids I’ve met and told you about at Children’s, I thought my heart was full of love. Until Casper. A furry kid.

Casper the cat belonged to my neighbor, who had her hands full with several other fur kids. Apparently, Casper didn’t like all the confusion, so he started visiting me. Sporadically at first, then daily. If I didn’t answer the door, he would literally “knock” on it with his paws until I let him in. She called him “Smokey,” but my morning radio show partner, Frye Guy, suggested “Casper” because “he’s a friendly cat.”

When my neighbor offered him to me, I was hesitant at first. I’m not a “cat person” but have owned dogs all my life. With Frye’s help (he has two cats), I got a litter box (ew!), cat food, toys, a scratching post and hesitantly began my life with a grey furry friend. I wouldn’t say I’ve become a “cat person” but am definitely a “Casper person.”

I’m still trying to figure things out. Casper was an “in/out” cat and is now only “in.” “Is he going to full adjust to being inside?” “Why does 1:30 a.m. seem to be his favorite time to play?”

Like I said, I’m still learning.

I’ve often said I have the best job in the world, the greatest family and friends and now a little grey kitty named Casper. My cup runneth over, unless Casper spills it first.
