Charlie Sheen made a revelation that he is HIV-positive.
Sheen, whose public meltdown made him go from the highest paid actor on television to being quickly fired from his hit show "Two and a Half Men" in 2011, has been getting treatment.
Sheen confirmed he was diagnosed about four years ago, he told "Today's" Matt Lauer.
He said he paid people who threatened to reveal his condition.
He said he is "not entirely" sure how he contracted the virus.
Sheen, 50, has been open about his drug abuse and the women, whom he nicknamed "goddesses" during his famous 2011 meltdown.
Famous friends of the actor have taken to social media to show their support.
Heather Locklear posted a photo of herself with Sheen on her Instagram account, saying her heart hurts.
Sheen is the youngest son of actor Martin Sheen and brother of actor Emilio Estevez.
He has been married three times; first, to Donna Peele in 1995, the BBC reported. They broke up after a year. He then married Denise Richards and had two daughters. They divorced in 2006. He also has twin sons with Brooke Mueller, whom he married in 2008 and divorced in 2011.
Sheen had been engaged to adult film star Scottine Ross, but the wedding was called off.
