Fan starts GoFundMe to help Kanye West with debt

A Kanye West fan started a GoFundMe account to help his favorite rapper get out of debt.

The outspoken fashion designer and rapper tweeted Saturday that he was $53 million in debt.

Whether or not it's true or what exactly West means by his tweet, Jeremy Piatt has stepped up to help by making a GoFundMe page called "Get Kanye Out of Debt."

"I'm trying to help out the greatest living artist of our time while he's in need," Piatt told Mashable. "I saw that Kanye is $53 million in debt, and I knew I had to do anything I could to help, because as all my friends would tell you, I'm just a very giving person."

"I am trying to reach out to Kanye or his people so the funds can be transferred to him." Piatt said he is trying to reach out to West's team so that they can have the funds transferred to the rapper.

"I have been in contact with GoFundMe, and we've agreed to keep the page up, but I am not able to withdraw any money," Piatt, who Forbes repoted is a graphic designer, said. "The only people who will be able to withdraw money will be Kanye or his team."

Besides helping his favorite artist, Piatt has a bigger goal to raise awareness for supporting the arts, but "of course I hope that Kanye finds out about it."

Otherwise, he said, the money can't be transferred to West.

But other donors seem to have a different agenda, contributing to the fund to draw attention to their own causes.

How effective that tactic is remains to be seen, since the donations still go toward alleviating Kanye's reported debt.

So far, 530 people have raised $4,845 in three days.
