7 restaurants that have recently expanded around Dayton

Arepas & Co. Colombian Comfort Food will open its fourth Dayton-area location in Washington Twp., east of the Dayton Mall.

Tentative plans call for the restaurant, located at 1000 Miamisburg-Centerville Rd., to open “softly” on Wednesday, restaurant co-founder Lisa Perdomo said.

Here are six other restaurants in the Miami Valley that have recently planned or added new locations:

Cassano's Pizza King

Cassano’s Pizza King recently applied for a beer license for a new store at 192 Woodman Drive in the Airway Shopping Center in Riverside. Founded in 1953, Cassano’s is Dayton’s oldest pizza chain. It operates more than 30 pizza shops and restaurants across the region.

El Rancho Grande Mexican Grill & Cantina, a Cincinnati-based chain, opened its newest store on May 24 at 1450 W. Dorothy Lane near South Dixie Drive in Kettering. The restaurant is located where a former Applebee’s stood and seats about 220.

Elsa’s Mexican Restaurant is seeking to add a fifth location on Wilmington Pike in Sugarcreek Twp. Jason Hemmert, son of Elsa’s founder Bill Hemmert, said last month that a potential Elsa’s restaurant is in the works in the Sugarcreek Plaza, in a location that previously housed Caramella’s Italian Kitchen.

The area’s newest Firehouse Subs opened its doors on May 16. The new 1,800-square-foot restaurant is located at 1128 S. Main St. in Englewood. The Florida-based chain specializes in hot sub and also serves salads and other food in an atmosphere that resembles an old-fashioned firehouse.

The Ohio-based gourmet grilled-cheese restaurant chain will open a restaurant at the Mall at Fairfield Commons in Beavercreek today. The 5,000-square-foot restaurant, the region’s first Melt, will seat 150 inside and 45 on the patio and is expected to employ 65 to 70 employees.

Rapid Fired Pizza, a fast-casual pizza chain, recently opened its latest store at 3301 Dayton-Xenia Road just west of North Fairfield Road. The pizza chain has opened 16 new restaurants in less than 20 months and expects to have as many as 35 open by the end of the year.
