He also announced that his latest album, titled "Traces," will be released on Oct. 5, Billboard reported.
Perry explained that his retreat from music due to the fact that, “My love for music had suddenly left me.”
"I knew that simply stopping was what I had to do. If music was ever to return to my heart, then and only then I would figure out what to do," Perry told his fans via his website.
“If not... so be it, for I had already lived the dream of dreams,” Perry continued.
Perry said he started working on “Traces” three years after his partner, Kellie Nash, died from breast cancer.
The album will have nine original songs, along with a cover of "I Need You," which was written and performed by The Beatles, Rolling Stone reported.
Perry's previously released song was 1998's "I Stand Alone," for the film "Quest for Camelot," Billboard reported.
He did attend Journey's induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2017, but didn't perform. His last show with Journey was in February 1987, Perry said on his website.
