Ohio ghost hunters plan to celebrate National Ghost Hunting Day on Saturday in a big, international way, including in three Hamilton buildings, and the public is invited to join the quest for apparitions.

“Ghost-hunting is nothing like it is on television, which is very melodramatic, very sometimes made-up,” said Maria Schmidt, a Hamilton resident whoalong with her husband, Bob Schmidt, are producers of Saturday’s local event.

With the event that ushers in the Halloween season, all proceeds will benefit the Butler County Historical Society, whose building, a former Hamilton mansion, officials say is haunted by several ghosts that communicate with staff.

Paranormal scientists with equipment used to sense spirits will be conducting investigations during the event.

“They’ll be taking photographs, and videography,” Schmidt said. “They’ll be using special equipment to capture voices. There’s a method for doing that. And of course, mediums will be present. We’ve got probably four or five mediums. Ohio is very medium-enriched.”

The ghost hunting itself starts at 10 p.m. and ends at midnight, but the event officially starts at 7 p.m. and concludes at 1 p.m.

“There will be tours, and people can go back and forth between the buildings and hear the stories (about the ghosts) there,” Schmidt said. Afterward, “there will be an hour that teams will probably be reviewing things, with captured photos, videos. We captured last year many, many, many apparitions on film, from throughout the world. As soon as they’re captured, they’re shared.”

People can also watch online Saturday at www.LargestGhostHuntStreams.com. That link will not become active until Friday evening.

“Here in Hamilton, they will be participating, and they will be live-streaming,” Schmidt said.

The “World’s Largest Ghost Hunt” will take place at 10 p.m. Saturday, with participants in 26 U.S. states, plus the countries of Australia, Canada, England, India, Ireland, Malaysia, Mexico, the Netherlands and Scotland.

“During the two hours, every team will have a live-stream opportunity,” Schmidt said. “So there will be, on our website, an access, to go to anyplace that is live-streaming. Not all 90 teams will be live-streaming, but most of them will.”

‘People can see what’s going on in England, or Ireland, or Georgia, California,” she said. “You can bounce around for two hours, from place to place.”
