As a big fan of country music, pretty much all things celebrity, I like to keep up on all the latest goings-on. Whether it’s through the social media or the Internet, TV entertainment programs or magazines, I do my homework.
So, it goes without saying, I'm really looking forward to this Sunday's Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas.. From the stars walking the orange carpet to the performances and acceptance speeches to analyzing audience shots, I will be eating it all up with a big wooden spoon.
What I’m most looking forward to is the latest country “bromance.” This one between ACM hosts Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan, which we will refer to from now on as “Bluke.” Luke is filling some sky high stiletto’s in the role, putting his big ol’ country boy feet in Reba McEntire’s shoes, who stepped down last year after hosting the show for a gazillion years.
I'm always amused at the continual merry-go-round of hosts at the Oscars and Grammys. Why don't they consider their country cousins? Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley have successfully partnered up as Country Music Association Awards hosts for five years in a row now, after a three-year run by Brooks & Dunn. Vince Gill, who will always remain my favorite awards show host, graced the CMA stage for a record-setting dozen years, sometimes with a co-host, most often not.
“Bluke” will be making the rounds of the talk shows this week, pumping up Sunday’s main event. Ironically, both guys are squaring off in the Entertainer and Male Vocalist of the Year categories. The ACM’s will be Luke’s first live co-hosting gig.
Last summer, he and The Band Perry’s Kimberly paired up for last summer’s CMA Music Festival special. She told ABC News Radio the Georgia native will be just fine. “I mean, the guy’s never met a stranger, and Luke certainly has a huge personality.”
At least on stage. Offstage, Kimberly warns Blake about Luke’s tidiness habits, or lack thereof. “Luke’s clothes were kind of strewn all out in the middle space, including his camouflage underwear. I’m not sure why he wasn’t wearing them, but they were on the floor,” she laughs. “I just want to remind him to please put those away, because I don’t know that Blake will be as forgiving on stage about that as I was.”
And considering Blake is a good shot with a bow and arrow, Luke might think about switching colors to neon orange.
