Smales is giving away free pretzels -- here’s how to get yours 

Smales Pretzel Bakery is making an offer you can really sink your teeth into. 

The iconic Dayton bakery, now in its  fifth generation, will celebrate National Pretzel Day on Wednesday, April 26 by giving away a free soft pretzel to all who visit the shop located at at 210 Xenia Ave.

Owner Emma Smales said no purchase is necessary, but she’s hoping the shop’s fresh-baked pretzels win new customers. 

“It is National Pretzel Day, the most important day of the year,” she said. “We want people to have a good Wednesday, to get through the rest of the week, and maybe bring in people who haven’t tried us before to get them hooked.”

Pretzels are normally 90 cents each. 

Smales said there will be plenty to go around next Wednesday. 

The bakery bakes about 100 pretzels at time.

“We will be making them until the end of the day,” she said. 

Smales opens at 7 a.m. and closes at 1 p.m.

The business was founded by her German-born great-great grandfather Rudie Schaaf in 1895 and refined by his daughter, for whom she is named.

Emma took over the family business last year and has made significant upgrades

Smales now accepts credit cards.
