Jazz legend Herbie Hancock headed to Dayton for summer concert

Musician will be joined by Kamasi Washington

Jazz musicians Herbie Hancock and Kamasi Washington will perform at the Rose Music Center at the Heights on Aug. 7.

Hancock, the winner of 14 Grammy Awards and an Academy Award for his Round Midnight film score, will perform with his all-star band featuring Vinnie Colaiuta on drums, James Genus on bass, Lionel Loueke on guitar and multi-instrumentalist Terrace Martin.

In his sixth decade of professional music, Hancock received a Kennedy Center Honors Award in 2013 and a Grammy Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2016. 

 Washington formed his first band, the Young Jazz Giants, with Stephen “Thundercat” Bruner, Ronald Bruner, Jr. and Cameron Graves in high school. His debut album, The Epic, was released in 2015.
