Summer’s busy live music season may be behind us, but there’s definitely no shortage of big concerts on the horizon.

1) JOAN SORIANO

The 411: The Dominican musician was 13 when he joined his first professional group and worked as a musician for hire in the studio and on stage before embarking on a solo career.

Local hook: University of Dayton's 2017-2018 ArtsLive Season presents Soriano, known as The Duke of Bachata, in concert in UD's Kennedy Union Boll Theatre, 300 College Park, Dayton, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10.

2) BLACK VIOLIN

The 411: The modern string duo of Kevin "Kev Marcus" Sylvester and Wil Baptiste puts a hip-hop spin on classical music that led to high-profile gigs such as performing at President Obama's second inauguration.

Local hook: Black Violin returns to the area for a concert at Kuss Auditorium, 300 S. Fountain Ave., Springfield, at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14.

3) MARY CHAPIN CARPENTER

The 411: The award-winning country singer, who was at Fraze Pavilion in June performing in Four Voices alongside Joan Baez and the Indigo Girls, returns to the area on her own fall tour.

Local hook: The Vic150 Music Series presents Carpenter in concert at Victoria Theatre, 138 N. Main St., Dayton, at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15.

4) MERCY ME

The 411: The contemporary Christian group from Texas released its ninth studio album, "Lifer," in March. The band is currently supporting the release on its Lifer Tour with special guests Unspoken and Ryan Stevenson.

Local hook: Mercy performs at Hobart Arena, 255 Adams St., Troy, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19.

5) LIVING COLOUR

The 411: Living Colour first name its name with the Grammy-winning 1988 hit "Cult of Personality" The tenacious rock group is currently on the road supporting, "Shade," its first studio album in eight years.

Local hook: Living Colour performs at Oddbody's Music Room, 5418 Burkhardt Road, Dayton, at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21. Doors open at 7 p.m.

6) SIXTIES SPECTACULAR

The 411: Lovin' Spoonful headlines the Sixties Spectacular, an oldies package concert that also features artists such as Gary Lewis & the Playboys, Dennis Tufano of the Buckinghams and Bob Miranda of the Happenings.

Local hook: Praia Entertainment Group presents the Sixties Spectacular at the Schuster Center, Second and Main streets, Dayton, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27.

7) KANSAS

The 411: In 2016, Kansas began celebrating the 40th anniversary of its 1976 album, "Leftoverture," with a lengthy tour. The new album, "Leftoverture Live & Beyond," will be released on November 3.

8) MARK WOOD

The 411: Wood is a man of many talents. The former electric violinist for Trans-Siberian Orchestra is the founder of Wood Violins, an Emmy Award-winning composer and educator.

Local hook: Wood performs with the Fairmont Orchestras at Kettering Middle School auditorium, 3000 Glengarry Dr., Kettering, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14.

9) DOC SEVERINSEN

The 411: Doc Severinsen was a part of mainstream American consciousness as the music director on "The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson" from 1967 to 1992. However, he had a successful musical career before and after his long stint on late night television.

Local hook: The celebrated musician joins the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra for Doc Severinsen's 90th Birthday Bash, a SuperPops Series concert at the Schuster Center, Second and Main streets, Dayton, at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 17 and 18.

10) THE COMMODORES

The 411: The classic R&B group was a mainstay on radio in the 1970s and 1980s with singles like "Three Times a Lady," "Brick House" and "Easy." Those songs and other indelible hits keep the band a top concert draw.

Local hook: The Commodores headline KMCF's 29th Annual Heart to Heart concert at the Schuster Center, Second and Main streets, Dayton, at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28.

11) BRAD MEHLDAU TRIO

The 411: Since emerging in the mid-1990s, Mehldau has been one of the most vital jazz pianists of his generation. He continues to work tirelessly whether he is leading his own trio or collaborating with artists such as Joshua Redman and "Prairie Home Companion" host Chris Thile.

12) MARTINA MCBRIDE

The 411: The award-winning country singer is taking a break from concerts promoting her 2016 album, "Reckless," to focus on holiday music. In late November, she launches The Joy of Christmas Tour, which features original songs, yuletide classics and holiday hymns.
