First Friday: This is what all the Hoopla is about

Downtown Dayton businesses are getting hyped for the 2017 NCAA Men's Basketball Championship First Four, March 14-15, with the upcoming First Friday: Big Hoopla edition, March 3. Here is a list of what's going on downtown this Friday:

ART

• Dayton Visual Arts Center, 118 N Jefferson St.: Join DVAC on First Friday for an opening reception for The Cline Show: DVAC's Annual Art & Design Student Invitational. Come view the best student work happening right now from Sinclair, UD, WSU and more. Opening reception is from 5-8 p.m. Call 937-224-3822.

• The Front Street Building Co., 1001 E. Second St.: It's time for another 1st Fridays at Front Street. This event features over two dozen art studios and artists all in one location, including painters, sculptors, glass makers, jewelry makers, with a few new things happening there at Front Street. • Front Street Experience, 16 Brown St.: In addition to the action going on at the Front Street galleries, don't forget to check out the new satellite location, conveniently located in the Oregon District, co-located with Spice Paradise, across the street from Thai 9. This month's featured artists are from the Dayton Art Collective.

• Jay's Seafood, 225 E. Sixth St.: Enjoy a new art gallery installation by local artists Christy Jennewein and John Landsiedel. Join in the wine tasting and take advantage of specially priced featured wines. Call for prices, hours, reservations, and other information: 937-222-2892.

Wells and Co. Custom Tattoo, 110 E. Third St.: Wells & Company' inaugural First Friday in February was a massive success. So they are doing it again! This time around they'll be celebrating the opening of "Masks, Myths and Misc.", an art show featuring the intense and amazing paintings by renowned illustrator and fine artist W. Ralph Walters from Columbus. They will also have a kinetic and raucous soundtrack for the evening provided by Dayton's favorite lucha rockers TEAM VOID and Mitch Mitchell's THE TERRIFYING EXPERIENCE! ENTERTAINMENT

• The Black Box Improv Theater, 518 E. Third St.: Womit 2.0 takes that stage every Friday night from 8-9 p.m. The show format may change but the performers do not! • Courteous Mass Dayton, Don Crawford Plaza, 220 N. Patterson Blvd.: Bring a bike every First Friday for a relaxed-pace group ride, starting at 6:30 p.m. All riding levels welcome.

• Dayton Chess Club, 18 W. Fifth St.: Dayton Chess Club hosts a Quick tournament for U.S. Chess Federation members. Games are perfect for club chess players and those experienced with online chess games who would like to test their skill over the board. Todd is a national touring comedian with a non-stop, high energy show blending standup and improv and music! He has several great original comedy tunes like "Daddy Please Don't Go," "The Feminine Hygiene Song," and "Orange Barrels." Previously a contributor to the nationally syndicated Bob & Tom Show.
