It’s been a remarkable run of basketball for the Dayton Flyers and it’s far from over.  Anthony Grant’s team takes a 15-game winning streak into Saturday’s rematch with Duquesne at the U.D. Arena.

The Flyers have certainly caught some people by surprise this season, but as a group the expectations were there as far back as last summer.

“I knew we were going to be a really good team,” Senior Ryan Mikesell said this week.  “But for me to sit here and tell you we were going to be a top five team probably would have been a little over my head.”

The Flyers added several pieces to last season’s 21-win team, but Rodney Chatman, Ibi Watson, and Jordy Tshimanga were already a part of the team practicing as transfers.

“Last year I remember at the end of the year we were talking about having the chance to do something special,” Sophomore guard Dwayne Cohill said.  “A lot of people didn’t expect us to be top five in the country and on a 15-game winning streak...we’re just trying to keep having fun and keep winning as long as we can.”

The Flyers will focus on finishing what they start against the Dukes on Saturday.  Dayton built a 19-point second half lead in Pittsburgh last month before holding on for a 73-69 win.

You can listen to the game  with the Voice of the Flyers, Larry Hansgen and former Flyer Brooks Hall on 1290 and 95.7 WHIO.
