Military history
The fifth annual Heritage Day will be held on the ground of Mac-A-Cheek Castle, 10051Township Rd., on Oct. 6. The Greater Ohio Living History Association, WWII US Mech Forces HQ will return for the program, “GI’s and Jerry, Life at the Front.”
The program will focus on living conditions for troops during the 1944 Moselle campaign in France. The free event will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Veterans from any war will be given free admission to tour Mac-A-Cheek Castle from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Gothic literature
The nearby Mac-O-Chee Castle, 2319 State Rt. 287, will host two ghostly programs focused on 19th century gothic literature.
Sansami Creative Works will perform “When the Cross is Made” by Eugene O’Neill Oct. 5, 6, 12 and 13 at 7:30 p.m. The one act play will be performed on the third floor of the castle. Tickets are $5 and support Sansami Creative Works.

Halloween fun
Ghost and Goblins: Literature to Scare and Delight will be held Oct. 27 and 28 at Mac-O-Chee Castle. The program begins at 4:30 p.m. with outdoor autumn games popular in the 1880s. Inside the castle, scenes from Frankenstein, Dracula and goblin poems will be read by James Whitcomb Riley.
The history and customs of Halloween, a dark cellar walk, trick or treating and, weather permitting, a bonfire will be held on the grounds.
Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children. Children under 5 are not encouraged to attend. The fee will support literary programs at the Piatt Castles.
