Foodies’ football favorites

Hut, hut, hike!

Are you ready for some football? Ready or not, it’s game time. The pros are taking the field and it’s time for you to gear up as well. Game day calls for some serious tailgating and (hopefully) celebrating, and you can’t cheer on your favorite team or celebrate sweet victory without the proper nourishment. That’s right, the return of football means the return of football foods. They may not be high in health content, but they’re pretty darn yummy!

What are your favorite game day eats? Everyone has their own favorites and must-haves from awesome hot wings that are sure to burn a hole right through your trachea to nachos drowning in gooey cheese. This year, in addition to your football food traditions, mix things up with some new recipes that are sure to get the party started. When perusing new recipes, keep the following two tips in mind.

One, consider finger foods like jalapeño poppers to cut down on dishes. After all, who has time to do dishes when there’s another game on after this one? Plus, you’ve got to keep your hands free for high fives, fist pumps, and clapping. Jalapeño poppers drenched with cream cheese and wrapped in bacon (yes, bacon) are sure to be the hit of any party, but there are plenty of other finger food recipes to choose from as well.

Two, stick with easy-to-make foods so you can spend less time in the kitchen and more time watching the game. Keep in mind that just because a recipe is easy doesn’t mean it isn’t delicious enough to totally alter the way you look at food. For example, one recipe that’s simple to whip up but scrumptious to devour is mac and cheese bites. Honestly, who can resist cheesy goodness? When evaluating recipes, pay more attention to the prep time than the cook time. Prep time is the “active” time — also known as the time you have to spend away from the game so beware!

Keep these tips in mind when picking new recipes to try on Football Sunday so that every dish you make can feel like a score. Start practicing your touchdown dance now. Unfortunately, these tips will be of no help when picking your fantasy league. Go team!
