Many drinkers swear by a good, greasy meal, either before or after a night of heavy alcohol consumption. Eating anything beforehand is helpful, because food in the stomach will help slow alcohol absorption. But does greasy food like bacon really make a difference? Bacon is rich in proteins and amino acids, which help restore the brain to its normal functioning level. Instead of waiting until you have a full-blown hangover, nosh at a diner after a night of partying.
A classic remedy for all sorts of elements, it helps if you drink the fizzy water once you get home from a night of partying, instead of waiting until morning. But beware, if you naturally have a sensitive stomach, Alka-Seltzer may just further irritate your stomach lining, which already is hurting from the alcohol.

The prickly pear cactus is one of the natural cures some suggest can alleviate hangover symptoms. One study found it decreased a few of the classic hangover symptoms: nausea, dry mouth and loss of appetite, while cutting the risk of a severe hangover by half. Available in powder or pill form, as always, one is cautioned to research any product before ingesting, especially if you are on any medications.
