Learn to Tango like President Obama

What do President Barack Obama and actor Al Pacino have in common? They can both tango.

Pacino won an Oscar for Best Actor in 1994 for his portrayal of blind retired Army Ranger Lieutenant Colonel Frank Slade in “Scent of a Woman,” which includes a stunning scene in which he dances with Donna, played by English actress Gabrielle Anwar.

President Obama may have studied Pacino’s performance in preparation for an opportunity to dance the tango in Argentina on Wednesday, March 23.

The president and First Lady Michelle Obama were attending a state dinner in Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina. They danced with professional dancers.

The tango originated in Argentina and neighboring Uruguay in the 1880s and now is a popular ballroom dance throughout the world.

You can learn to tango at a number of Dayton-area ballroom dance studios, including Arthur Murray Dance Center in Miamisburg, Always Ballroom Dance Studio in Dayton and Golden City Ballroom in Centerville. There are also several ballroom dance clubs, including Dayton Ballroom Dance Club, Swing 'n Sway Dance Club and the 76 Dance Club.
