Slow down in construction zones

Re the letter “Trucks creating serious hazard,” Dec. 13: Why do some drivers believe that they should not have to actually think and employ proper driving techniques while behind the wheel?

I-75 has several construction zones between I-70 and the Ohio River. All are well marked with numerous signs that say, “Watch for entering/exiting trucks.” Maybe you should actually slow down in them, be extra vigilant and pay attention to what is happening in front of you, instead of expecting the trucking and construction folks to incur extra costs, which ultimately will be passed on to the taxpayers.

Incidentally, the speed limit in those construction zones is 55 mph or (in Dayton) 45 mph. And the left lane should be used for passing only.

I’m a truck driver and I run up and down I-75 through these construction zones four to six times a day. If we all slowed down and paid extra attention in these hazardous areas, we’d all be safer.
