Two men killed in a rollover crash in Dayton that ended with the car hitting a tree Thursday morning have been identified.

Montgomery County Coroner Kent Harshbarger identified the victims as Devyn Dixon, 23, of Riverside, and Austin Gordon, 22, of Huber Heights.

The cause and manner of their deaths have not been determined at this time.

Dayton police responded to Troy Street near Melberth Road after the crash was reported just after 3 a.m. Thursday. While the crash wasn’t reported until 3:08 a.m., Dayton police Sgt. Gordon Crains said the crash occurred around 1:45 p.m.

“We believe that the crash was heard from a residence, then they ultimately made contact with the Dayton Police Department after going to that location and seeing the vehicle and the victims at that location,” he said. “We don’t know if other vehicles drove by that location after the crash occurred.”

He added that police have video of the crash.

Dixon was driving the 2007 Chevrolet Impala northeast when he apparently lost control, according to the crash report. The car went off the left side of the road and hit a pole before rolling over and hitting a tree.

Gordon was ejected from the car and Dixon was trapped inside. The Dayton Fire Department removed Dixon from the car, Cairns said.

The investigation indicates that the car was traveling at a high rate of speed, but it’s exact speed isn’t known.

“We will be looking through information that comes from the computer within the car,” Crains said. “That should give us indication if seat belts were worn. It should also give us an indication of speeds prior to the crash itself as long as that computer is salvageable.”

Police will also use toxicology results from the coroner’s office to determine if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

Anyone with information on the crash should call Detective Taylor Gianangeli at 937-333-COPS (2677).
