A two-day active shooter training course is scheduled for September to teach participants how to respond to serious incidents and share those skills.

The Training Instructor Certification Course will be held Sept. 20-21 at Moraine Heights Baptist Church, 5661 Munger Road, according to Miami Twp., which is teaming up with the ALICE Training Institute.
ALICE stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter and Evacuate and is a strategy for law enforcement, schools, universities, hospitals, businesses and places of worship. It utilizes recommendations from various agencies including the Department of Justice, Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Participants who complete the course will be ALICE-certified to share their new skills with others.
The course is designed to teach proactive survival strategies for violent intruder or active shooter incidents, according to the township. The goal of the program is to provide individuals with survival-enhancing options for those critical moments between the time a violent situation begins and when law enforcement arrives.
