Beavercreek Sears closing today: What to know

The Sears store at the Mall at Fairfield Commons will shut its doors for good when it closes at 6 p.m. today.

The long-time anchor of several local malls filed for bankruptcy in October. The Dayton Mall store has already closed and the Piqua store will close in February.

Shoppers at the Beavercreek store turned out for 80 percent off everything except select appliances Saturday. Merchandise is becoming scarce, and the top floor of the store was entirely empty Saturday.

Sears has announced round after round of store closures in recent years. More than 228 stores have been slated to close since this summer alone.

After Sears closes, the Fairfield Commons mall will begin renovation to introduce two new tenants. Round1 Entertainment, a large restaurant and game center, will open on the bottom floor of Sears.

The Room Place furniture store will open on the top floor. Both stores are expected to open in late 2019.
