Coronavirus: Area colleges change commencement plans

Georgia has not seen dual enrollment participants graduating from college earlier as a result of the credits earned in high school or putting less demand on the HOPE Scholarship.

Local colleges and universities are postponing or cancelling their 2020 commencement plans due to coronavirus concerns. The colleges that have made statements are listed below.

MIAMI UNIVERSITY 

Miami University’s commencement will no longer be held at the Oxford campus on May 16.

“While the ceremony in May is canceled, we are exploring other, creative options to bring together our graduates and their families at a later date,” President Gregory Crawford said in a written statement.

UNIVERSITY OF DAYTON

The university president announced March 20 that the spring commencement ceremonies, originally scheduled May 9, will be postponed.

There is no current reschedule date.

OHIO STATE

Ohio State University postponed their spring commencement without a reschedule date.

The graduation ceremony was originally scheduled for May 3.

WRIGHT STATE

Wright State University has decided to postpone their 2020 commencement.

The university says they will still hold a commencement ceremony on a different date that has not yet been determined.

SINCLAIR COLLEGE

Sinclair College is cancelling their May 3rd commencement ceremony, according to a tweet on their official Twitter.

CLARK STATE

Clark State Community College is moving their commencement to Aug. 15. 
The college also announced that they are extending all modified operations through May 10, according to a press release.This story will be updated as more colleges and universities announce their plans for their commencement ceremonies.
